What is PRElection?
Prelection is an app that allows you to PREvote for the candidate of your choice, and to PREdict the election results before November 6. PRElection is not a poll. It is a continuous tally of how people intend to vote on November 6 – effectively, it is "early voting." All holders of the PRElection app cast a vote for their candidate. If you change your mind, simply vote again. The PRElection app keeps track of the change, and updates the overall results. Unlike telephone polls that include only about 3,000 people, the entire count of all PRElection voters is always complete, and unlike internet polls, you can only cast one vote (though you can change your vote, voting multiple times will not alter the results). Once you cast your vote, it is counted immediately. If you don't change your mind, you don't need to vote again or update you vote – just watch the PREsults come in!
PRElection also allows you to learn about the candidates and their positions from within the app, and even to make donations directly to the candidates from within the app. PRElection does not process donations, does not take any portion of your donation or charge any fee, and does not track or monitor your activity in any way. We simply provide a platform to make it easy for you and the candidates to find each other.
Each candidate or party can upload a different photo, change the web page describing the candidate or party, and direct the user to a donate page to contribute to the candidate. Candidates can also send "push" notifications directly to PRElection App users. To learn more, see the Candidate Support page, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Curt Renshaw at 404-791-6783.
How do I vote?
First select the type of election you are interested in: President, Senate, House, Local (currently, only the Presidential race is included – watch for updates!). For anything other than President, the PRElection app will use your current location to narrow down to your state or congressional district. You can also override this by selecting a specific race. When you find the race you are interested in, PRElection will present a listing of all currently registered candidates. Simply select the candidate you wish to vote for, and drag to the ballot box to cast your vote! (You can also select "Undecided"). It is that easy.
You can vote without selecting "Get Verified", however, your vote is counted only in the "Unverified" tally, and is not counted in most reports. If you slecet "Get Verified", your vote carries weight in all reporting. "Verified" votes reflect the best predictor of the actual voting outcome, so if you want to make your vote really count, Get Verified! PRElection never passes any information to its servers that could be used to identify you. Only the demographics you supply are passed. No identification information including name, phone number, etc. is ever passed to or stored on PRElection servers.
How do I tell Other People about PRElection?
The PRElection app encourages you to Get Out The Vote by spreading the word on Facebook and Twitter, or by sending SMS messages or email. All the links are provided in the app – just click and go!
How do I learn about the candidates?
From the PRElection app, simply clicking on the PREview Candidate button under any candidate will take you to promotional information or web sites they have supplied to PRElection. Candidates can post any information they would like to share with you that you view at your option by selection the PREview candidate button. Candidates also have the ability to send important announcements via push notifications.
How does PRElection work?
The PRElection app is registered to your device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad), and keeps track of your votes on your device. The PRElection app passes your vote to the server, but does not pass your identification, phone number, or anything else that could be used to identify you. If you change your vote, the PRElection app is aware of your previous vote and your new vote. It updates the server with the new vote. That way, the server has a continuous tally of everyone's current vote. The server knows how many votes have changed, but not who changed their votes. Your vote remains active for the candidate you originally selected unless and until you change your vote.
Unlike traditional "polls" that only sample a small number of people periodically, PRElection samples everyone that has participated continuously. For example, if the results of a debate cause 10% of voters to change their opinion, PRElection will log those changes, but will still have a complete count of all voters who did not change. It is as though all voters are polled real-time, all the time. Maybe your uncle convinces you to change your vote after a vigorous discussion over dinner. You simply log the change at any time, and the overall statistics are updated immediately. One of the great features of PRElection is that it keeps track of how many voters change their vote, and when, so that candidates and news outlets can see the actual results of a debate, a policy shift or some other major event as the story unfolds.
Why is PRElection Accurate?
Unlike on-line polls, PRElection allows only one vote per device (though you can change you vote as often as you wish). By using Get Verified demographics, results can be filtered to users in the general vicinity of the race being considered (or wider sampling can see how a congressional or senate candidate is favored nationally). Demographics provided by the user provide an accurate picture of the responding populace. Finally, PRElection samples the entire database of voters all the time. Many voters do not change their positions frequently, or at all. However, as voters do change their selections, the database and results are adjusted real-time, without relying on a poll of a handful of individuals who don't mind interrupting their dinner to answer phone questions as with typical polling.
The PRElection app works even if you provide no demographic information. If you wish to provide demographic and make your vote really count, you simply opt to Get Verified. Select the Get Verified option from the PRElection app, and fill out any or all of the information requested. Providing demographic data allows PRElection to provide voting results by age, sex, marital status, ethnicity, geographic breakdown and other groupings. Only demographics are ever passed to the server. PRElection servers never have any data that could be used to link you to your vote, or to identify you in any way.
